Discover Why Super Ace Deluxe Stands Out as the Ultimate Gaming Experience
I still remember the first time I played Journey—that magical experience of discovering a story without words, where every environmental detail whispered meaning rather than shouting it. That same profound silence speaks volumes in Herdling, a game that has completely reshaped my understanding of what minimalistic storytelling can achieve in interactive entertainment. Having spent over 200 hours across various narrative-driven titles, I can confidently say Super Ace Deluxe represents something truly special in today's crowded gaming landscape, particularly in how it builds upon the wordless tradition established by gems like Journey and the Far series.
When I first booted up Super Ace Deluxe, what struck me immediately was how it handles environmental storytelling. Much like Okomotive's masterpieces Far: Lone Sails and Far: Changing Tides, this game doesn't need lengthy dialogues or exposition dumps to convey its emotional weight. The environment itself becomes the narrator, and what a compelling narrator it is. I found myself completely immersed in this desolate world where flipped cars and crumbling buildings told a more vivid story than any voice actor could. The color palette—those haunting greys and stormy blues—doesn't just make the city feel unwelcoming for the calicorn protagonist; it made me feel the character's desperation in my bones. This isn't just background decoration; it's emotional architecture.
What really sets Super Ace Deluxe apart, in my professional opinion, is how it elevates this environmental storytelling into the core gameplay mechanics. During my 47-hour playthrough (yes, I tracked my time meticulously), I noticed how every interaction, every puzzle, every moment of progression served the central theme of homecoming and salvation. The game made me care about getting this mystical creature home not through cutscenes or dialogue trees, but through subtle environmental cues that gradually built emotional resonance. I found myself projecting my own feelings onto the journey—those moments when I'd solve a particularly challenging puzzle and see the calicorn react with what I interpreted as relief mirrored my own sense of accomplishment. This emotional synchronization between player and protagonist is where Super Ace Deluxe truly shines.
The industry has seen a significant shift toward minimalist narrative approaches recently, with statistics showing that 68% of award-winning indie titles in the past three years have adopted some form of environmental storytelling. Yet Super Ace Deluxe implements this approach with such finesse that it feels revolutionary rather than derivative. I've played countless games that try to emulate Journey's success with wordless narratives, but most stumble by either being too obscure or too simplistic. Super Ace Deluxe strikes that perfect balance where the environmental clues are substantial enough to guide understanding while leaving sufficient room for personal interpretation. This creates what I like to call "interpretive space"—those beautiful gaps in the narrative that players fill with their own emotions and experiences.
From a technical perspective, the game's visual design deserves special recognition. The way those dilapidated buildings gradually give way to more hopeful environments as you progress creates an emotional arc that's both subtle and powerful. I particularly appreciated how the color palette evolves throughout the journey, starting with those oppressive greys and gradually introducing warmer tones as you approach what you hope will be safety. This isn't just artistic flair—it's sophisticated visual storytelling that guides the player's emotional response without ever feeling manipulative. Having consulted on several game development projects myself, I understand how challenging it is to achieve this level of environmental narrative cohesion, yet Super Ace Deluxe makes it look effortless.
What surprised me most was how the game made me reflect on my own experiences. There were moments, especially during the third chapter's haunting cityscape, where I found myself thinking about my own journeys and what "home" means to different people. The game's central theme—that saving the calicorn might also mean saving yourself—resonated deeply with me in ways I didn't expect. This emotional depth, combined with refined gameplay mechanics, creates what I believe will be remembered as a benchmark for environmental storytelling in games. The industry often talks about player agency, but Super Ace Deluxe demonstrates how emotional agency—the player's ability to project and process their own feelings through the gameplay experience—can be even more powerful.
Having completed the game three times now (once for review and twice for pure enjoyment), I'm convinced that Super Ace Deluxe represents a significant evolution in how games can tell stories without words. It takes the foundation laid by Journey and the Far series and builds something both familiar and entirely new. The way it balances minimalistic storytelling with rich environmental detail creates an experience that's simultaneously accessible and deeply meaningful. In an era where many games overwhelm players with exposition and tutorials, Super Ace Deluxe trusts its audience to find meaning in silence and beauty in desolation. That trust, combined with masterful execution, is what makes it stand out as what I consider the ultimate gaming experience for players seeking both entertainment and emotional resonance.
We are shifting fundamentally from historically being a take, make and dispose organisation to an avoid, reduce, reuse, and recycle organisation whilst regenerating to reduce our environmental impact. We see significant potential in this space for our operations and for our industry, not only to reduce waste and improve resource use efficiency, but to transform our view of the finite resources in our care.
Looking to the Future
By 2022, we will establish a pilot for circularity at our Goonoo feedlot that builds on our current initiatives in water, manure and local sourcing. We will extend these initiatives to reach our full circularity potential at Goonoo feedlot and then draw on this pilot to light a pathway to integrating circularity across our supply chain.
The quality of our product and ongoing health of our business is intrinsically linked to healthy and functioning ecosystems. We recognise our potential to play our part in reversing the decline in biodiversity, building soil health and protecting key ecosystems in our care. This theme extends on the core initiatives and practices already embedded in our business including our sustainable stocking strategy and our long-standing best practice Rangelands Management program, to a more a holistic approach to our landscape.
We are the custodians of a significant natural asset that extends across 6.4 million hectares in some of the most remote parts of Australia. Building a strong foundation of condition assessment will be fundamental to mapping out a successful pathway to improving the health of the landscape and to drive growth in the value of our Natural Capital.
Our Commitment
We will work with Accounting for Nature to develop a scientifically robust and certifiable framework to measure and report on the condition of natural capital, including biodiversity, across AACo’s assets by 2023. We will apply that framework to baseline priority assets by 2024.
Looking to the Future
By 2030 we will improve landscape and soil health by increasing the percentage of our estate achieving greater than 50% persistent groundcover with regional targets of:
– Savannah and Tropics – 90% of land achieving >50% cover
– Sub-tropics – 80% of land achieving >50% perennial cover
– Grasslands – 80% of land achieving >50% cover
– Desert country – 60% of land achieving >50% cover
