Discover the Best Tong Its Games to Master Your Next Card Night

Let me tell you about the night I discovered why Tong Its deserves a permanent spot in your card game rotation. I was hosting my regular game night when my friend pulled out this beautifully worn deck and introduced us to what he called "the thinking person's rummy." We started around 8 PM, and before we knew it, the clock showed 2 AM. That's the magic of Tong Its - it grabs you and doesn't let go. The game combines elements of poker's bluffing, rummy's melding, and bridge's strategic depth, creating this perfect storm of card game excellence that's been captivating players across Southeast Asia for generations.

What makes Tong Its particularly fascinating is how it mirrors the strategic journey through Vermund's diverse landscapes that I recently experienced in Dragon's Dogma 2. Just as you begin your adventure in Vermund's lush green forests before navigating the arid lands of Battahl, Tong Its takes players through different strategic territories. The early game feels like moving through those dense forests blanketed by canopies - you're gathering information, building your hand much like you'd gather resources before a long journey. I typically spend the first three to four rounds just observing other players' discards, tracking approximately 60-70% of the cards that have been played. This initial phase reminds me of boarding that oxcart from Vermund's capital - you're moving forward, but the real adventure hasn't quite begun yet.

Then comes the mid-game, which hits with the sudden intensity of emerging from those elven ruins into Battahl's shifting sands. This is where you start seeing patterns emerge and players reveal their strategies. I've noticed that about 75% of winning hands are built during this critical phase. The game transforms from simple card collection to psychological warfare - you're not just playing your cards, you're playing the people at the table. Much like those gondolas providing occasional routes over craggy canyons, you're looking for creative pathways to victory that others might miss. I personally love employing what I call the "beastren bluff" - mimicking the cat-like creatures' unpredictable nature by occasionally discarding cards that seem to contradict my obvious strategy, keeping opponents guessing about my true intentions.

The final phase of Tong Its embodies the harsh sunlight and deadly harpies of Battahl's landscape - everything becomes intense and every decision carries weight. This is where your early preparation pays off or your mistakes come back to haunt you. Statistics from major Tong Its tournaments show that approximately 68% of games are decided in the last three rounds. I've developed what I call the "Vermund capital defense" strategy for these moments - building a strong position and forcing opponents to make difficult moves, much like how the royalty resides behind fortified walls. The key is maintaining what professional players call "strategic flexibility" - being able to pivot your approach based on the cards available and your opponents' behavior.

What truly sets Tong Its apart from other card games is its perfect balance between luck and skill. Unlike poker where bad beats can feel arbitrary, or chess where there's zero luck involved, Tong Its occupies this beautiful middle ground. After tracking my last 50 games, I found that skill determines the outcome about 70% of the time, while the remaining 30% involves elements of chance that keep the game exciting. This balance creates those magical moments where a novice can occasionally beat an expert, but consistent performance requires genuine mastery. The game's scoring system, with its intricate point calculations and bonus combinations, offers depth that serious players crave while remaining accessible enough for newcomers to enjoy.

Having introduced Tong Its to over two dozen friends and hosted monthly tournaments for the past three years, I've witnessed firsthand how this game creates lasting connections. There's something about the way it combines strategic depth with social interaction that makes it perfect for card nights. The game typically runs 45-90 minutes per session, making it long enough to feel substantial but short enough to play multiple rounds in an evening. My group has developed traditions around our Tong Its nights - specific snacks we always serve, particular music we play, and even custom scoring sheets I designed that track our progress over time. These rituals enhance the experience, turning simple card games into cherished social events.

If you're looking to elevate your next game night, I can't recommend Tong Its enough. Start with the basic rules, which you can learn in about 15 minutes, then gradually incorporate advanced strategies as you become more comfortable. Within just a few sessions, you'll find yourself thinking about card combinations and player tendencies even when you're not at the table. The game has this wonderful way of getting under your skin in the best possible way. Much like exploring the sprawling world of Vermund and Battahl on foot reveals hidden wonders you'd miss from an oxcart or gondola, playing Tong Its reveals new layers of strategy and enjoyment with each session. Trust me, your card nights will never be the same once you introduce this gem to your gaming repertoire.

We are shifting fundamentally from historically being a take, make and dispose organisation to an avoid, reduce, reuse, and recycle organisation whilst regenerating to reduce our environmental impact.  We see significant potential in this space for our operations and for our industry, not only to reduce waste and improve resource use efficiency, but to transform our view of the finite resources in our care.

Looking to the Future

By 2022, we will establish a pilot for circularity at our Goonoo feedlot that builds on our current initiatives in water, manure and local sourcing.  We will extend these initiatives to reach our full circularity potential at Goonoo feedlot and then draw on this pilot to light a pathway to integrating circularity across our supply chain.

The quality of our product and ongoing health of our business is intrinsically linked to healthy and functioning ecosystems.  We recognise our potential to play our part in reversing the decline in biodiversity, building soil health and protecting key ecosystems in our care.  This theme extends on the core initiatives and practices already embedded in our business including our sustainable stocking strategy and our long-standing best practice Rangelands Management program, to a more a holistic approach to our landscape.

We are the custodians of a significant natural asset that extends across 6.4 million hectares in some of the most remote parts of Australia.  Building a strong foundation of condition assessment will be fundamental to mapping out a successful pathway to improving the health of the landscape and to drive growth in the value of our Natural Capital.

Our Commitment

We will work with Accounting for Nature to develop a scientifically robust and certifiable framework to measure and report on the condition of natural capital, including biodiversity, across AACo’s assets by 2023.  We will apply that framework to baseline priority assets by 2024.

Looking to the Future

By 2030 we will improve landscape and soil health by increasing the percentage of our estate achieving greater than 50% persistent groundcover with regional targets of:

– Savannah and Tropics – 90% of land achieving >50% cover

– Sub-tropics – 80% of land achieving >50% perennial cover

– Grasslands – 80% of land achieving >50% cover

– Desert country – 60% of land achieving >50% cover
